Jaromenak was left without surveillance 40 km from Minsk

A Young Front activist Uladzimir Jaromenak, who is under surveillance, was taken 40 km away from Minsk instead of being released from the prison in Akrestsina Streetin Minsk.

“At half past midday I have told to collect all my things in the cell. I understood that something wrong was going on, since they could not release me one and a half hours earlier. They put me in a car and took to Valozhyn district in 40 km from Minsk. Policemen typed a wrong PIN code on my mobile to block it so I could not make a call, - Uladzimir Jaromenak reported to Radio Svaboda. – A person came, who was looking for a lake. I asked to make a call. He did not refuse. This is how I managed to tell where I was”.

Here is what Uladzimir told about the conditions of his 15-day prison term in the Akrestsina detention center: “I was put into a cell for two. There was one bunk bed. The cell was at the corner of the building, it was not very warm there. First a young man was there with me. After he was released, they put in a homeless person. Thank god, the homeless person was clean – with no lice”.

On 18 April trial was held on Jaromenak without his participation. The Young Front activist was arrested for 15 days for alleged violation of preventive surveillance. According to the court of Minsk’s Pierhamajski district Uladzimir Jaromenak was not at home at some point between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. on 24 February 2013.

Jaromenak only found out about the trial on 24 April.

On 15 March 2012 preventive surveillance was introduced for one year over Jaromenak, who had been convicted for participating in a protest action against the rigged 2010 elections. However on 15 March this year the surveillance was extended for another half a year. A violation of surveillance threatens with a one year imprisonment.

According to the conditions of the preventive surveillance Jaromenak must stay at home from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., once a week he is visited by a district police officer with an inspection, also Jaromenak is not allowed to leave Minsk without the permission of police.
