Arrests in Minskoblgaz

The head of Minskoblgaz’s district branch office was building a cottage at the expense of the enterprise.

As the head of the anticorruption and counter-organized crime department of the region prosecutor’s office Aliaksandr Bialitski told BelaPAN, the prosecutor’s office for Minsk region has started a criminal case according to 2 of the article 424 of the Criminal Code (power abuse) against a head of one of district branch offices of Minskoblgaz enterprise.

The head of the branch office, while being an official in 2009-2011 and acting contrary to the interests of the service, abusing power with the aim of obtaining benefits (aiming to avoid material costs) and satisfying other personal interests (aiming to provide services to his close relatives) systematically used his subordinates and equipment of the enterprise for construction and assembly works at real estate objects belonging to his and his relatives and for carrying out other works for personal purposes. The actions were performed in working hours without due registration and payment.

As the result of the illegal actions the enterprise has suffered losses of over 12 million roubles, which qualifies as grand larceny.

The criminal case has been sent to the department of the Investigatory Committee of Belarus for Minsk region for investigation.

Cases, when officials build cottages for themselves at the expense of enterprises or state budget, are not rare in Belarus.
