Licenses revoked for private medical centres

Licenses issued to a number of medical centres for providing anaesthesia and intensive care services have been revoked.

The step affected Ecomedservice, Grandmedic, Medexpert, Radi Zdorovia, Velere, Medart, TransEnergoOil centres, Nasha Niva reports.

The decision was taken by the Medical Control Council of the Ministry of Healthcare following checks relating to anaesthesia services in certain medical centres.

Some healthcare centres preserved their licenses but were prohibited to provide anaesthesia services until corrective measures are taken. These centres include AntesMed, Belevromed-Uzdym, KMKMED, Edaran-Medical, Terra Medica, Confidence Service and Medrekplast.

Journalists received a copy of the decision of the Medical Control Council of the Ministry of Healthcare “On launching an internal investigation following the death of patient K.” The Investigation Committee detained a few employees of Ecomedservice on the ground of this document, which lays blame on the anaesthetist. The Investigation Committee, however, arrested the anaesthetist, the anaesthetist nurse and the centre's director Halina Valzhankina, a former department chief at the Ministry of Healthcare.

“A malfunctioning anaesthetic machine was used for anaesthesia for patient K.,” a commission of the Ministry of Healthcare headed by first deputy minister Dzmitry Pinevich concluded.
