Huminski takes offence at OSCE PA, Georgia and Kyrgyzstan

The “house of representatives” thinks there's no need in the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Ad Hoc Working Group on Belarus.

“There's no grounds for and no need in this group,” said first deputy chair of the “house of representatives” Viktar Huminski, who heads the Belarusian Parliamentary Delegation to the OSCE PA, Interfax news agency reports.

He noted that the group “actually broke up” in connection with Uta Zapf's decision not to run in the Bundestag elections.

“Ms Zapf has confirmed she leaves politics and apologised for failing to fulfil the Assembly's tasks on Belarus,” Huminski said. He preferred not to mention that Uta Zapf said as she was leaving her post that Lukashenka was a criminal and Belarus would not see changes while the dictator stayed in power.

The vice speaker said the group, if it would continue to work, could be headed by Swedish MP Christian Holm. He said that “Mr Holm surprised us when he deceived his colleagues in the third committee [of the OSCE PA – Interfax] by saying that he was banned from entering Belarus.” As it was turned out, “he is not and has never been on the entry ban list,” Huminski continued. “I don't know what happens next. This decision is not made by the parliament,” he said.

The vice speaker informed that it was Swedish MP Holm who proposed the “anti-Belarusian resolution” for consideration by the OSCE PA. “It didn't differ from the previous ones. He couldn't explain clearly why he introduced this resolution,” Huminski said.

He turned attention to the fact that during voting on the Istanbul Declaration representatives of 11 countries, including MPs from the EU member states (France, the Czech Republic and Slovakia), supported the Belarusian delegation. “We regret to say that we don't understand the stance of Kyrgyzstan and Georgia who didn't support us,” Huminski said.

He added that he had been told “on the sidelines that we are patient people and should wait.”
