Vladislav Baumgertner found in Minsk flat

Uralkali CEO has been placed under house arrest ahead of Putin's visit to Belarus.

Vladislav Baumgertenr, who was arrested in Minsk a month ago, was transferred from jail to a flat in Minsk on the night of September 26. The Russian businessman is under house arrest now. The information was received from Alexei Basistov, a Russian lawyer of Uralkali chief executive officer. Vladislav Baumgertner was in the KGB jail, Interfax reports.

Alexei Basistov says his client is under 24-hour surveillance in a rented flat chosen by KGB officers in Minsk. Vladislav Baumgertner's mother, who flied to see her son, was allowed to visit him.

“Lawyers hope for the soonest return of Baumgertner to Russia,” he added.

It was reported some days ago that lawyers of Uralkali CEO couldn't find him. The Russian Embassy, the KGB and the Belarusian Investigation Committee couldn't answer a question about his whereabouts.

The chairman of the Supervisory Board of Belarusian-Russian Belarusian Potash Company (PPC), Vladislav Baumgertner, was arrested in Minsk on August 26 and thrown into the KGB detention facility on accusations of abuse of power.
