Poroshenko ready to impose ceasefire in Donbas

32

Ukrainian President hopes that a peace plan will be signed on Friday.

At the NATO summit in Wales Petro Poroshenko has stated that he is ready to give an order to cease fire in case peaceful talks start in Minsk on Friday.

“Poroshenko will impose ceasefire since 11.00 a.m. (Greenwich Time), in case Minsk meeting is confirmed,” a Reuters’ reporter informs.

The president has also said that he expects signing of a step-by-step peace plan to settle the conflict in Ukraine on September 5 in Minsk; “Tomorrow implementation of a peace plan could be started. On Friday at 2 p.m. a document on stages in carrying out of a peace plan should be signed at the trilateral contact group meeting,” the spokesperson of Petro Poroshenko, Svyatoslav Tsegolko quoted him on Twitter as saying.

We remind that the day before Russia’s president Vladimir Putin presented his peace plan consisting of seven items. However it was not accepted in Ukraine. In particular, Ukraine’s Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk said that it is whitewashing for the West, and stated that there should be only one item in the plan: Russia pulls out its troops.
