Orsha residents sent mayor to jail

There is a rumor in Orsha that the chairman of Orsha district’s executive committee has been in jail for a month already.

The charter97.org web-site learnt about that from a reader.

“There is a rumor circulating in Orsha that the chairman of the district’s executive committee Mikalaj Lisouski has been in jail in Minsk for a month already. The whole town is buzzing. People say, he was previously detained for drunk driving”, - the reader pointed out.

In the reception of the chairman of Orsha district’s executive committee they told a charter97.org’s reporter that he was in place and his reception days were on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month.

The deputy head of the Information and Public Relations department of the Investigatory Committee Siarhiej Kabakovich noted that the IC had no charges against Orsha’s mayor.

“There is no criminal case at the Investigatory Committee against Mikalaj Lisouski, the chairman of Orsha district’s executive committee”, - he emphasized.

We would remind that arrests of high-ranked authority officials are quite frequent in Belarus. Most notorious cases are the ones of the chairman of Homiel city executive committee Viktar Pilipiec, deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Jauhien Paludzien, the head of the Chief Department of MIA’s Internal Security police lieutenant colonel Uladzimir Krotau. Also parliament members of all levels are often caught on corruption crimes.
