The politician and civic activist died at the age of 63.

For years Hienadz Hrushavy was the head of the Chernobyl Children foundation. In the years of its activities the organization helped over two million Belarusians, who had suffered from the accident at Chernobyl nuclear power plant.

Radio Svaboda received the news of his death from a journalist Hienadz Kiesnier.

Hienadz Hrushavy was born on 24 July 1950.

He finished the school number 50 that specialized in physics and mathematics, but entered Belarusian State University’s Philosophy faculty. In 1975 he defended a PhD in philosophy.

In 1989 he became the chairman of BPF’s Committee Chernobyl Children, which later turned into the foundation.

He was a member of the parliament in BSSR.

Due to the threat of arrest in March 1997 he was compelled to leave for Germany, where he stayed until March 1998.

After he came back from abroad Hienadz Hrushavy continued his activities in the position of the head of the Chernobyl Children foundation.
