Russia bans import of Belarusian products

The import of products of nine Belarusian meat packing plants will be banned from November 24 due to safety complaints.

TASS learnt it from Sergei Dankvert, the head of Russia's agricultural watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor.

The restrictions hit Inko Food, Babushkina Krynka, Belovezhskie Delikatesy companies, meat packing plants in Biaroza and Homel, Dzerzhynskiy agricultural company, the poultry processing plant in Smaliavichy and Servo Lux company.

Russia's phytosanitary chief thinks the sharp decline in quality is caused by cheap raw materials that Belarusian plants buy in Canada.

Dankvert says Rosselkhoznadzor informed the producers a month ago about the results of tests that showed a high concentration of certain substances in products. According to Darina Isakova, the head of the international cooperation department, meat has a high concentration of antibiotics, Salmonella and Listeria.

Rosselkhoznadzor prepared a decision to ban the transit of products from Belarus to Kazakhstan without checks in Russia.

The measure is taken due to numerous facts of smuggling sanctioned products through this channel. The relative order will be released in the nearest days.
