When is another petrol price increase to come?

Fuel prices are pegged to the dollar in Belarus, and its rate has risen by 2%.

Belneftekhim company says they wait for “significant changes” for the price revision, Euroradio reports.

Over the past three months, oil has had a 25% downturn in price in the international market. Western countries expect fuel prices to fall. But these changes are unlikely to touch Belarus as in September Belneftekhim has pegged petrol prices to the American currency. Petrol AI-92-K5-Euro was set as the indicative fuel grade with a price of 1 US dollar per litre. But the rate of the US national currency changes daily in Belarus. When can the next fuel price revision be expected?

“These questions are brought up for discussion as the need arises,” Maryna Kastsiuchenka, a press secretary for Belneftekhim, says. “If conditions, due to which the operation of oil refineries and petrol stations remains stable, do not change, prices remain at the current level. But if there are some nuances which need correction, prices change. Meanwhile, the issue on cyclical changes is being discussed.”

Maryna Kastsiuchenka responds to the question about “significant changes” and “some nuances” in a figurative manner:

“For instance, when you are run out of bread, you go to a shop as you have the need to eat. So, if the need arises when significant changes take place, the price is revised.”

Since November 1, petrol AI-92 has cost 10,600 Belarusian rubles. But the current exchange rate is 10,820 Belarusian rubles per dollar. In other words, it has had a little more than 2% rise. Taking into account that the latest rise in petrol price was 5%, it is fair to assume that the next increase will happen when the dollar overcomes a level of 11,100 Belarusian rubles. However, the changes are likely to happen at the beginning of a new quarter, on January 1.
