Bike rides in Homel attract police

Several police patrols arrived at the gathering point.

Charter97.org learnt it from a reader from Homel.

The first bike tour in Homel was organised at the weekend by Talaka association as part of the campaign “Let's Do it Better!” launched the Assembly of NGOs. The information about the event was posted on social networks. Participants gathered in the city's central park and saw the police waiting for them. Police officers asked if the event was permitted by the city authorities. They also wanted to know the route of the tour, the organiser and the number of participants.

While the police were trying to obtain more information about the “offence”, small groups of cyclists began the tour. They rode to the places of city legends and historical monuments.

The event attracted about 50 people. The cyclists also discussed the absence of bicycle lanes and water pollution of ancient Dziadno Lake.
