Alexandra Sasnovich into US Open round two

World No.120 Alexandra Sasnovich of Belarus took a solid 6-4, 6-3 victory over World No.67 Anna Schmiedlova of Slovakia.

The 20-year-old Belarusian will next face World No.11 Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark who defeated Slovakia's Magdalena Rybarikova (43) in the opener.

It is the first time Alexandra Sasnovich reached the main draw of the Grand Slam tournaments going through three qualifying rounds.

New York's Flushing Meadows courts will see two more Belarusian players in action on Tuesday. Belarus number one Victoria Azarenka (17) will open the tournament against Misaki Doi of Japan (91). Olga Govortsova of Belarus (121) will go against Eugenie Bouchard of Canada (8). Last year Belarus number one Victoria Azarenka fell to World number one Serena Williams of the United State 5-7, 7-6 (8-6) in the US Open women's singles final. It will be 9th US Open for Victoria Azarenka. Olga Govortsova will take part in the tournament for the eighth time (best achievement is round three in 2012).
