Authorities ban anti-war pickets near embassies of Russia and Iraq

The Minsk authorities didn't permit BCD activists to hold anti-war pickets on August 28.

Charter97.org learnt it from the press service of the Belarusian Christian Democracy party (BCD).

BCD activists planned to hold a picket near the embassy of Russia against stirring a conflict in eastern Ukraine. Near the Iraqi embassy, they wanted to call on the country's government to defend the persecuted Christians and other religious minorities.

Pickets were banned as they allegedly don't comply with the requirements of the law on mass events.

“Banning pickets became a routine for Belarusian authorities. It would be easier to write in laws that pickets are prohibited in Belarus. It would be honest,” Dzianis Sadouski, the executive secretary of the organising committee to create the BCD party, said.
