Belarusians come out to take part in “Praha’s Maidan”

7

Citizens and residents of Czech Republic protest against the passive stance of their authorities as to the Russian aggression in Ukraine.

“Praha’s Maidan” demands that the Czech authorities express an active attitude toward Ukraine. Protest events will last until mid-November. The organizers of the Maidan – the Kaputin group and other Czech and Ukrainian organizations, volunteers – have installed tents in the square and held a non-stop rally from Saturday morning till Sunday evening against the passive attitude of the Czech authorities on the situation in Ukraine. Belarusian activists too take part in the event, while among others there were white-red-white flags above the participants, Ukrgazeta reports.

The petition to the authorities, which was signed by almost 450 people in two days, puts forward the following demands: provide Ukraine with military-related assistance, medical treatment of wounded Ukrainian fighters in Czech hospitals, the simplification of the visa regime for Ukrainians. Apart from that, Czech public figures and signers spoke in among the tents in the square.

The event’s organizers received a permission to run it until mid-November and plan on actively increasing the numbers of the participants.
