Uladzimir Labkovich: Odd Incident Took Place In Maternity Hospital During "Elections"

6

"Elections" in Belarus, as a rule, are characterized by a long chain of politically motivated trials. The police are looking for active observers of "For Freedom" movement.

On the results of observation at the polling stations in Minsk region – Slutsk, Maladzechna and Barysau – the observers of the movement "For Freedom" have filed a large number of complaints. However, law enforcing agencies have no relation to the work of observers, as consideration of complaints is not within their competence. And that is why such calls to the police are an attempt to intimidate active observers, and maybe an effort to exert pressure, though not physical, but moral one, observers noted.

A human rights activist Uladzimir Labkovich was a guest at the TV show Hot Comment at Belsat channel.

"There wasn’t much suspense over the election results, as, in my opinion, there was no strong and vibrant political infighting between the opposition and the government. There wasn’t a certain candidate who stood out sharply enough and could become an antagonist of the current government, so this function is performed by observers, which have been antagonists of the electoral system existing in Belarus ", -- the human rights activist said.

Labkovich told about an odd incident, when a woman who was in a maternity ward and observed the elections, was discharged from the maternity ward. She was told: "Either you're here and the government is taking care about you, or you are engaged in such anti-governmental affairs as election observation."
