Brest Ideologist Placed Local History Museum “On Secret List”

Vadzim Liaukovich has prohibited employees of the Brest regional history museum to give interviews to independent journalists.

They were filming for Belsat culture news an item about finishing of the project “Fashion Thursday at the Museum.”

“In the course of the project (which lasted for six months) we have already done some materials about the cycle of the events, we have been constantly interviewing the museum’s staff, and it never bothered anyone, – a journalist Aliaksandr Liauchuk says. – But this time, the organizers refused to give comments. In a private conversation we were told that all the employees of the museum had been banned from giving interviews to Belsat by the ideologist Vadzim Liaukovich. “I'm really sorry, I think it's stupid, but there is an order not to give you any comments,”– one of the employees of the museum said.”

Later Vadzim Liaukovich himself came up to the reporters demanding to show their accreditation. “I advised him to learn the laws. This is the first attempt to put pressure on us after the presidential elections. I find it abnormal that an official who lives on Belarusians’ taxes, tells us who can give interviews, and who cannot,” – Aliaksandr Liauchuk stresses.

The crew still managed to film a news item, which will be released today in the culture news. However, there won’t be an official comment.

For cooperation with Belsat in late 2014 - early 2015 Aliaksandr Liauchuk stood trial three times. He was charged with violations of Article 22.9 of the Administrative Code. The journalist was fined 40 basic units (Br6,000,000), 21 basic units (3,780,000 rubles) and 50 basic units (Br9,000,000).
