Employees are paid out only 2/3 of their wages in the period of idle time.

Minsk Refrigerators Plant is not the only one which stopped its conveyor. This year Minsk Automobile Plant and Mogilev Railway Car Building Plant have taken the same decision. Many industrial enterprises have gone over to a four-day work week, Belarusian News report.

Aliaksei Vahanau, representative of the Belarusian Industrial Union sees "nothing supernatural in today's realities". According to him some industrial enterprises work a four-day week. As a rule, Friday is an idle day. This time employees are paid only 2/3 of their wages.

Aliaksei Vahanau says the perceptible reduction in sales both on the domestic and foreign markets is the reason for idleness in industrial enterprises. It leads to a slowdown in industrial output. Therefore, the managers have to either take a part-time work week or send employees on vacation.

"There is a lack of adequate industrial output because of low sales. In this situation such number of people at work does not make sense", Aliaksei Vahanau says.

According to official data, Industrial output in the first quarter of the current year decreased 7.3% as compared to the same period last year, export of goods of Industry Ministry - 40.3%.

In January-March, 2015 99.1 thousand people, 3.5 more than in the first quarter of 2014, had to work part-time. At the same time the number of the employees granted vacation at the employer's initiative made up 85.2 thousand people in the first quarter, which was about 1.7 times more than last year.
