Zhanna Nemtsova decides to support Ukraine and charter97.org
Zhanna Nemtsova

Boris Nemtsov's daughter, who received the Polish Solidarity Prize, says she will spend a part of the prize on charity projects.

Zhanna Nemtsova will donate 700,000 euros for charity projects in Ukraine and the website charter97.org. A daughter of Boris Nemtsov, the politician who was killed in Moscow on February 28, 2015, said it on August 4 in Warsaw before accepting the prestigious Polish Lech Wałęsa Solidarity Prize, Polskie Radio reports.

“A part of the prize, 700,000 euros, will be spent on charity projects in Eastern Partnership countries. It is a condition of the prize. Most charity projects will be financed in Ukraine that is hit by brutal war. I mean support for families of the Heavenly Hundred, as well as repairing schools and buying equipment in the Ukrainian regions with a large number of migrants. Assistance will also be provided to the Crimean Tatar TV in exile that works in Kyiv. This is the stronghold of free speech and unbiased news about the situation on the peninsula,” Nemtsova emphasised.

The daughter of the killed politician added that she planned to “give grants to the Belarusian website charter97.org with its chief editor Natallia Radzina”.

The Solidarity Prize was founded by the Polish MFA. It is awarded for outstanding efforts in promoting and defending democracy and civil liberties. The winner receives a statuette and 1 million euros.

The Solidarity Prize consists of three parts: 250,000 euros for the winner, 700,000 euros for the programmes chosen by the winner and 50,000 euros for the winner's visits to Poland.

Zhanna Nemtsova noted 250,000 euros meant for her personally would be donated to the Boris Nemtsov Foundation.
