Authorities Eager To Simplify Weapons Trade Between CSTO Countries

Belarus insists on simplification of procedures of mutual shipments of products for military and two-in-one purposes in the framework of the multilateral cooperation between the states – members of the Collective Security Treaty Organization.

As representative of the State Military Industrial Committee of Belarus Uladzimir Lauraniuk has informed to BelaPAN news agency, such position of the country was sounded on May 20 in Dushanbe at the XIV session of the Interstate Commission on Military and Economic Cooperation (ICMEC) of the CSTO. The Belarusian delegation at the meeting was headed by Deputy Chairman of the State Committee of Military Industry – head of the Belarusian branch of the ICMEC CSTO Dzmitry Pantus.

After the discussion, the commission recommended that the Belarusian side should prepare a normative legal act draft which would regulate the issues of simplification of procedures of mutual shipments of products for military and two-in-one purposes in the framework of the multilateral cooperation between the states – members of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, also considering the suggestion made by the Russian branch of the ICMEC on elaboration of common norms and regulations in the sphere of the export control of the CSTO member states.

One of the key topics of the session held under the presidency of Russia’s Vice-PM Dmitry Rogozin was formation of an effective system of manufacturing and scientific-technical cooperation and integration of enterprises and organizations of defense-industrial complexes of the CSTO member states with regard to production of military goods, definition of possible directions of their development, as well as creating interstate research and manufacturing associations (joint enterprises) in the framework of the CSTO.

Among the important decisions of the commission – approval of the draft decision of government heads “On mechanism of practical realization of issues of interaction in joint manufacture of military goods of enterprises and organizations, the specialization of which remains worth keeping in the interests of the military-economical cooperation between the CSTO member countries”. The document prescribes the order of decision-taking concerning participation in mutual elaborations and manufacturing of weapons and military equipment, as well as keeping the specialization of enterprises and organizations, included into the mentioned list.
