Bus With Belarusian Journalists Attacked In Rio

A bus carrying Belarusian journalists came under attack during the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

The incident took place after the match between Belarus and Brazil on August 9, which was held at the Youth Arena and which ended with the victory of Anatol Buyalsky’s team with a score of 65:63.

After the game the bus carrying the mass media representatives was returning from the Deodoro Olympic district to the main press center of the Olympic Games. According to the witnesses, at about 20.15 local time, when the bus was half way from the Deodoro venue, a loud popping sound was heard twice and two large bus windows covered with small cracks. Small holes were found in the bus windows, BelTA informs.

The journalist of the sports newspaper “Pressball” Artur Zhol suffered minor cuts from flying shards of glass. The new road from the Deodoro venue to the Olympics press center goes in the hills and passes favela quarters. Assumptions are that it could be shots or it could be stones, thrown at the windows of the bus.

Pressball reports that the bus wasn’t examined by security services on its arrival at the Olympic Park. The passengers, who were in the cabin, were not interrogated.
