Canteens For Workers To Be Closed In Homel

Mass layoffs and return to packed lunches can lead to closing canteens for workers down at Homel enterprises.

The Homel City Executive Committee proposes a moratorium on the closure of the factory canteens, and demands that the restaurants and bars of the regional center were profitable, as in Vitsebsk.

The disappointing figures were announced in the executive committee, summing up the work of the economic complex in the first half of the year. The growth rate of Homel trade organizations’ turnover was 103.2%, of the catering – 97.1%. The combined ratio was 99.4%, against 101% assigned, Belarusian Partisan reports.

Head of the city trade and services management Sviatlana Karatkevich said that in Homel has a developed network of canteens due to its industrial orientation. But many companies have optimized the number of employees, and people are more likely to eat food prepared at home. As a result, some managers think about closing the canteens down.

Chairman of the Executive Committee Piotr Kirychenka asked not to hurry with this. And even to think about declaring a moratorium on the closure of the factory canteens. As for the public cafes, bars and restaurants, Sviatlana Karatkevich was instructed to study profoundly how they work.

“Vitsebsk has more restaurants and bars than Homel, and they are profitable. We have quite the opposite situation. What are Homel residents not happy with? Price? The quality of services offered? I look forward to hear your statement on pricing principles and service level in these institutions,” – Piotr Kirychenka said.
