Ex-director of the Department of refereeing and inspection of the Belarusian Football Federation Andrei Zhukau is suspected of taking bribes.

The Investigation Committee of the Republic of Belarus is continuing to investigate the case of ex-director Department of refereeing and inspection of the Belarusian Football Federation Andrei Zhukau, who is suspected of taking bribes. On August 8, it was two months since Zhukau’s arrest. Commenting on the current status of the investigation, the press service of the Investigative Committee said: “The investigation is in progress.” Thus, we can conclude that Zhukau’s detention period has been extended.

According to Art. 190 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Belarus, the preliminary investigation period may be extended up to six months by an investigative department head’s order, by.tribuna.com notes.

As an exception, a preliminary investigation period may be extended for more than six months with the approval of the Attorney-General of Belarus, Chairman of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Belarus, Chairman of the State Security Committee of the Republic of Belarus or their deputies.

Zhukau was detained on June 7. A criminal case on suspicion of taking bribes (Art. 430, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Belarus) was opened against the official. This article provides for restriction of freedom for a term of three to five years, with a ban to hold certain positions or to be engaged in certain activities, or imprisonment for up to seven years with confiscation of property and deprivation of the right to occupy certain positions or be engaged in certain activities. “Smarhon” head coach Mikalai Ryndziuk and referee Andrei Saroka are the witnesses on Zhukau’s case.
