Landing occurs in the area code-named "Sahara".

Soldiers of the Kostroma Parachute Regiment will land in Belarus for the first time in the framework of joint Russian-Belarusian tactical exercises, Interfax was informed by the Department of Information and Mass Communications of the Russian Defense Ministry on Friday.

"Landing will be held on previously unfamiliar to Kostroma paratroopers landing area surrounded by thick woodland", the statement says.

The Defence Ministry notes that this area is called "Sahara" because of unique terrain, its soil is composed of loose sand and the total absence of any vegetation.

"Most of the personnel involved in the international joint exercises has successful experience of landing both in conditions of extremely low temperatures in the Far North and hot climate areas including Tajikistan", the chief of Special Air Service of the Parachute Regiment Lieutenant Colonel Igor Kovalenko is being quoted.

He specified that in the framework of joint exercises landing of the personnel will be held in two ways: by parachuting and landing of aircraft and helicopters of Belarus based on the systems of Russian-made D-10.

Joint exercises are conducted in accordance with the plan of the international activity of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation for 2016.
