“Caribbean Crisis” and Suwalki Corridor

Russia, with participation of Lukashenka, is demonstratively preparing for military action.

This was stated during the interview to charter97.org by the leader of the civil campaign “European Belarus” Andrei Sannikov in the commentary on transfer of Russian “Iskander missiles” to the Kaliningrad region and Russian-Belarusian military exercises of paratroopers in Brest.

- Aggressive actions of Russia can be fairly called as a “Caribbean Crisis” in Europe. Here, we can observe a deliberate escalation and preparations of military actions. And there cannot be any coincidences or dual interpretations of Russia’s military preparations, in which Lukashenka’s regime is fully involved.

First of all, it is necessary to take into account the large-scale Russian-Belarusian maneuvers of the paratroopers in Brest on the Polish border and the transfer of “Iskander missiles” to the Kaliningrad region.

We may recall the recent Lukashenka’s statement that he is ready to relegate the Belarusian army to protect interests of Russia – and that statement was exactly about the war.

European politicians should leave their attempts to see signs of “peacekeeping” in the dictatorship of Lukashenka. Rather, they should recognize that, due to the Lukashenka's regime, the territory of Belarus is fully included in Russia's military plans.

The situation is very dangerous; all the attempts of negotiation with Putin by the West, primarily by the US, led only to the escalation of tension in the world. Unpunished bombing of the civilian population in Syria by the Russian aircraft has only initiated the conflict in the Middle East. As Putin himself boasted, Syrian jumping-off ground is the best place to train the Russian Armed Forces. What the Kremlin is currently doing in Europe with the use of the Belarusian territory – is exactly the preparation of a major military operation to invade Europe via Suwalki corridor. Moreover, through the militarization of Kaliningrad area, Russia will be able to put a strain on a considerable part of Central and Eastern Europe, including Baltic countries and Poland.

Western politicians should stop being complacent in their relationships with dictators, hoping that the aggression will come to an end. Rather, they should take adequate measures to counter this aggression, - Andrei Sannikov said.
