Activists Called Maladzechna District Executive Committee Head "On Carpet"

The official must respond to the use of forced child labor.

The Initiative activists held a rally against forced schoolchildren labor in Maladzechna. The event took place on the Day for the Abolition of Slavery, which is celebrated annually on December 2, Radio Svaboda reports.

The rally was held in front of the Maladzechna District Executive Committee. Activists spread out a carpet, and "demanded from those responsible for forced labor of pupils and students to come out."

As head of the Alternative Aleh Korban explained, the rally took place in Maladzechna, because two months ago a 13-year-old schoolgirl got killed there during agricultural works.

"They were gathering potatoes. And, as it goes since the time of the USSR, they brought schoolchildren. 13-year-old Viktoryja died under the wheels of the truck. They gave a runaround and found the driver. But the problem is broader – it is necessary to get rid of this Soviet habit to use free labor of students and schoolchildren. Unfortunately, no one but the driver was held accountable for the death of the girl," – Korban said.

The rally lasted 40 minutes. During this time, the participants were filmed by police officers in civilian clothes.

"We handed our requirements to the Maladzechna District Executive Committee Chairman and we hope that they will be taken into consideration," – Korban added.
