Despite the fact that the Republican public organization Perspective has withdrawn the application for holding a rally on February 15, sole traders are ready to protest publicly.

At the meeting with the Minister of Commerce Aliaksandr Lukashenka demanded that small enterprises should be firmly and resolutely demanded to provide documentation for the goods, despite the strikes of “some sole traders or whoever else”, Radio Svaboda reports.

He called the sole traders working without certificates bandits and criminals. On the same day the leader of the public organization Perspective Anatol Shumchanka announced that he withdrew an application for a rally, scheduled for February 15 in Minsk. The reason for the withdrawal was the start of negotiations in the Working Group of the Public Advisory Council for entrepreneurial development at the Ministry of Economy. However, a lot of sole traders from different regions of the country don’t believe the negotiations will be effective. They are outraged by Lukashenka’s statements and intend to take to the main square of Minsk.

Berdzianiou – Lukashenka is a contract officer at the service of the people

Polatsk-based sole trader Henadz Berdzianiou says that he doesn’t support the Perspective’s initiative to abolish the rally on Bangalore Square and enter into negotiations with the authorities, because he doesn’t believe they will be effective. He pins his hopes on resolute actions.

Recent remarks by the head of state towards the sole traders and cancelation of the rally by the leader of the Perspective, force sole traders to protect their rights in a different way.

“It’s our own fault, that the head of the country considers such remarks against the sole traders acceptable. It’s when we were named “lousy fleas” for the first time, that we should have filed claims in courts, including the Constitutional and International European Courts, for impairment of dignity of a particular social group. Since we haven’t done that, the insults continue: “bandits, criminals” – and these words come from the head of the state and are broadcast on television nationally! Policy “not one step back” is the norm for him, because his ambitions are above everything. Though he is a contract officer at the service of the people”, – Berdzianiou says.

As for the meeting, it was Perspective who cancelled the meeting on February 15, not the sole traders. In fact some people hope for some results of the negotiations in the working group that will work on February 11.

“But I do not hope for any negotiations, because people, who are gathering there, are trying to achieve reduction of fines for themselves and some benefits. And sole traders who do not work because of the Decree №222, who have no income, are of no interest to these people. We do not work according to “grey” schemes, but the state and its big business do. Now we are negotiating, and some decisions are to be taken. I have always been a supporter of decisive and radical actions. For example, our Vitsebsk and Homel sole traders actively hold organized rallies. Homel announced meeting on February 22 and if it does not work out in Minsk on February 15, we will be able to support and unite with Homel residents on February 22. Perhaps not in Minsk, but in some other place, but this situation will burst out. We do not give up and do not lose hope. To lose hope is the last thing. Not only sole traders, but all the other active citizens of Belarus are now fighting for our future. At the moment, we do not see any future neither for us, nor for our children,” – Henadz Berdzianiou said.
