Investigatory Committee: Bloggers Must Bear Same Informational Responsibility As Mass Media

Tthe Investigatory Committee’s official has expressed their discontent about dissemination of a negative video material with force structures representatives by the citizens.

Head of the Department for Information and Public Relations of the central administrative office of the Investigatory Committee Siarhei Kabiakovich took part in the roundtable organized by the newspaper Zviazda. He sounded his opinion about the attitude of the population towards the force structures officers.

Nasha Niva quotes the official:

***

"It is not a secret that today many people use gadgets and almost everyone considers himself a journalist. A person can film any actions, extract something out of the context and present information any way he likes. It doesn’t mean he wants to blemish someone’s reputation. It means that a person does not always coordinate his interests with the society.

It is not totally correct to show some actions of a policeman or tell how an investigator conducts certain investigatory moves. It is not always right to give advice on how to extinguish a fire to the Ministry for Emergency Situations. This is the business of specialists, professionals, who had studied for a long time, to help our citizens”.

"We need to join our efforts to overcome the tendencies when a simple person, a teenager who considers himself a blogger or a media professional, films certain actions and disseminates the video materials.

Besides, he presents it the way that the society perceives this information from a negative angle. However, they do not tell that a youngster served in the army, obtained a certain specialty there, he is capable of holding arms and knows how to defend his motherland. That a policeman who protects the public order in the street is the man to whom you will come running first if something happens, and he will save you. Thus, we need to go deeper in what is happening around us.”

"As for bloggers, we need to switch to another level. If in Russia, a blogger has a significant number of subscribers, he must get registered.

This is reasonable: bloggers create certain public opinion, they distribute information for unlimited number of subscribers, users. Therefore, they should bear the same responsibility as registered mass media.”

It is obvious that the official of the Investigatory Committee was annoyed that, thanks to the unindifferent citizens who filmed the mayhem conducted by the policemen and published the video in the Internet, we saw how the people in uniform dragged a blind beggar by the floor at Uruchcha metro station last year. This couldn’t but shock and outrage the passers-by.

And then again, in early April this year there appeared a video in the Internet, showing a young policeman making a foot sweep on another beggar and beating his dog. The Belarusians were outraged by the policeman’s actions, but the City Administration of Internal Affairs of Minsk City Executive Committee stated, as always, that their officer acted in accordance with the law, although the inspection of this case was not yet over.
