A strike is brewing at the Belarusian Metallurgic Plant.

One of the founders of the United Civil Party, former head of planning and economic department of BMP Marat Afanasiyeu wrote about that on the site ucpb.org.

Today I have found out there will be a meeting of employees of several electric steel production brigades at the Belarusian Metallurgic Plant on May 27.

The collective appeal, in which the workers had expressed their discontent with the state of their wages, deprivation of bonuses and general decrease in wage level, gave occasion to the meeting.

The management, who used to be before Anatol Savianok, “upgraded” the production plant to such extent, that it lost all of its original essence. There were three renovations of gas purifiers, replacement of furnace transformers, blower fans, the installation of three ladle metallurgy facilities overloaded the plant, the production has been “strangled,” and the taken out loans sum up the final outcome.

The pipe production is another “nasty thing”, it has been a credit millstone around the neck of the plant since its start-up, and promised by Miasnikovich (Japanese technological chain) and Siamashka (five-year return on investment in this plant) life pleasures have never come.

And now there is another new rolling-mill shop, which the plant simply can’t provide with scrap metal due to the lack of money.

In 2015 the plant lost about 160 million dollars.

And not a long time ago the output per worker at the BMP reached 180 thousand dollars a year and exceeded the average one three times in terms of the Ministry, and by half in terms of the High-Tech Park.

It’s a mishmash – cement, wood, railroad, MAZ, Gomselmash and now BMP...

There’s no need to be an economist to understand, that the state of the Belarusian economy presumes packing suitcases, and not convoking the All-Belarusian Assembly. And the sooner, the better ...
