The decision has been taken during the visit of the Ukrainian delegation headed by Ukraine’s Energy and Coal Mining Minister Ihor Nasalik.

Electricity supply from Ukraine to Belarus are planned to be established through the state-run enterprise Ukrinterenergo, the press-service of the Energy and Coal Mining Ministry of Ukraine reports.

“One of the important questions, discussed during the meeting of the head of the Energy and Coal Mining Ministry Ihor Nasalik, and the first deputy Minister of Energy of Belarus Leanid Shents, is resuming of electricity exports from Ukraine to Belarus, which had been temporarily suspended since November 2014… The sides have determined that electricity supplies are to be carried out by Urkinterenergo enterprise,” – the report reads.

The representatives of the Energy and Coal Mining Ministry of Ukraine reminded that the draft decree of the Cabinet of Ministers “On Increasing Electricity Exports” is going through the procedure of reviewing at bodies of executive power, and after its passing concrete terms and volume of delivery to Belarus are to be decided on.

As said by Ihar Nasalik, resuming exports would allow increasing load of Ukrainian nuclear power plant units, and the share of nuclear power in the production structure, and reduce production cost of electricity in Ukraine.

The sides have also discussed a possibility of transit of Ukrainian power via Belarus to Lithuania.
