“National Flag Avenue” In Minsk City Center

A picket dedicated to the 26th anniversary of signing the Declaration on Belarus’ state sovereignty took place in the evening on July 27.

The participants of the action which took place near the philarmony building in Yakub Kolas Square in Minsk unfolded about a dozen and a half of white-red-white flags and posters saying “Independence Means Belarusian Language”, “Independence Means Independent Foreign Policy”, “Independence Means Freedom of Opinions”, “Independence Means National Symbols”, “Independence Means Tenable Army”, the Belarusian News agency writes.

Chairman of the BPF party Aliaksei Yanukevich noted that the authorities were trying to silence the date of July 27.

“They want the Belarusians to forget it, to forget the roots of the Belarusian statehood,” — he said to BelaPAN news agency.

The politician considers it very important so that the citizes of Belarus “preserve the memory of this very significate date, when the Supreme Council took the fateful decision for the country back in 1990”.

The action lasted for over an hour, the policemen in plain clothes watched and filmed it but made no charges against its participants.
