The mothers of the convicts are willing to convey to the society that the police throw the people to prisons for “drug-related crimes”, and this includes absolutely innocent people as well.

The initiators of creating of the social enlightening association Mothers’ Movement 328 have addressed to Literature Nobel Prize winner Svetlana Alexievich with an open letter through the newspaper Narodnaya Volya, Radio Liberty reports.

The aim of this action is the wish of the mothers, whose children were illegally sentenced for drug distribution, to attract the attention of the Belarusian society and the international community to the facts of mass destruction of the young generation of Belarusians by the illegal actions of the law-enforcement structures.

According to Chairperson of the initiative group for creating the public association Mothers’ Movement 328 Larysa Zhyhar, thousands of Belarusian moms count on the help of the famous Belarusian writer:

- We believe that this heart cry, our distress call will touch her, reach her somehow. We also believe our respected government will listen to the Nobel Prize winner. I think Svetlana Alexievich will hear us and help in some way. Probably, with her advice, assessment of the current situation in our country, the drug theme in particular,” - Larysa Zhyhar has shared her thoughts.

Lukashenka repeatedly demanded that the convicts under Article 328 of the Criminal Code (use and distribution of narcotic and psychotropic substances) should be put in extremely severe confinement conditions, so that “they will beg for death”. Several people committed suicide in the penal institutions within a year. According to the information provided by human rights defenders, over 9000 young people aged 14-25 are serving long prison terms for drugs distribution.
