Today there is an urge to find any methods and ideas to unite the democratic forces.

Chairman of the Belarusian Congress of democratic trade unions Aliaksandr Yarashuk has described the opportunities for the opposition to unite, to Radio Racyja:

– Today there is an urge to find any methods and ideas to unite the democratic forces. And, as parties and movements failed to unite as legal entities, I would suggest another option – to unite as physical persons. Many problems would fade away in such case, although it sounds a bit exotic. Probably, no one would do it, but if you don’t like the idea than find something else. Create ideas and make them come true, to achieve any kind of movement forward.

– How to convince those who don’t believe real unification of the opposition is possible today?

– We need various tactics and strategies which would take over initiative. Let us imagine that the democratic forces took interest to the idea of uniting and got together, all of them with no exception. So, they got together and created, conditionally speaking, the United Party of Belarusian Democrats, to be above all those structures. They submitted documents for registration. This would be a wonderful tricky move!

The opposition took a step, but the ball remains at the government’s side. What would be its reaction to that? Besides, why hasn’t the government formed any party structure for itself? Because the authorities remain reluctant to initiate a political process. When they start doing this they will have to switch to the elections under party lists. This means, one party or another would make it to the parliament. However, it is not happening. That is why I stand for creating the fundament for real uniting.
