Import Of Oil To Belarus Decreases By Almost 40%

For just a month, the Belarusian regime has lost a considerable amount of its "financial cushion".

The reduction of the Russian oil supplies has led to the fact that in July, Belarus reduced its imports by 37,6% compared with the volume in June. This is reflected in the preliminary official statistical data, the BelaPAN news agency writes.

In total, in January-July Belarus imported from Russia 12,7 million tons of oil, which is 5,3% less (or 713,4 thousand tons) in physical terms, compared to the same period of 2015.

At the same time, in July in particular, Belarus imported 1,18 million tons, which is 37,6% less compared with the volume in June, when almost 1,9 million tons of oil was delivered to Belarus.

We remind, in the first half a year, Russia sold 1,9-2 million tons of crude oil to Belarus on a monthly basis, but in July it decided to reduce the supply of hydrocarbons. The basis for this decision was the growing debt of Belarus for the Russian gas. In addition, the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation stated that the Belarusian side was not fulfilling obligations to supply oil products to the Russian market.

Last week, Aliaksandr Lukashenka authorized the government to solve the situation with energy supplies with Russia. However, after the negotiations at the level of Prime Ministers, the Belarusian Embassy in Russia informed that the governments of both countries had failed to find compromise on the gas issue.

Meanwhile, the Russian side has recently said that Russia intends to continue to supply oil to Belarus on a reduced schedule in the fourth quarter.

Representative of "Transneft" Igor Demin has informed to RIA “Novosti”, the Belarusian refineries will be delivered 3,5 million tons of crude oil in the third quarter and vc3 million tons (1,5 million tons per refinery plant in Belarus) in the fourth.

Earlier, Prime Minister of Belarus Andrei Kabiakou said that the reduction in Russian oil supplies leads to a deepening of the fall of GDP. Thus, in January-June Belarus Belarus' GDP decreased by 2,5% compared to the same period last year, in January-July fell by 2,7% already, and upon the results in January-August it reached 3%.
