Is Government Withdrawing Officials From “Union State”?

The Council of Ministers has announced that it is already working on “optimizing” the number of Belarusian officials in the EEU structures.

The Belarusian government is working on the implementation of Lukashenka’s orders on “optimizing the number” of Belarusian representatives in the bodies of the Eurasian Economic Union.

We remind that, the day before Lukashenka, meeting with state secretary of the “union state” Grigory Rapota, urged Moscow to determine the depth of integration in the Eurasian space.

At the same time Lukashenka said that the Belarusian side is now carefully analyzing its participation in the Eurasian Economic Union.

He asked a series of rhetorical questions: “Why do we keep a bunch of officials there? There are, as I know, about a thousand of them in the so-called government in the EEU. And what is the result? Why to pay money for the maintenance of high quality experts in Moscow?”

“Lukashenka gave such an order, we are working on its implementation,” – press secretary of the Council of Ministers of Belarus Uladzislau Sychevich said.

As belaruspartisan.org notes, he did not specify the direction of this optimization and did not answer the question of how many people in the EEU structures can be made redundant.
