Young Front Members Appealed Illegal New Year Detentions

The activists were detained during a festive event with a white-red-white flag.

Activists of the Young Front, arrested before the New Year rally on 31 December, appealed against the illegal actions of the police, mfront.net writes.

On the eve of 2017, Young Front leader Zmitser Dashkevich called Minsk residents to celebrate the New Year on Kastrychnitskaya Square under white-red-white flags. Despite the fact that Zmitser and two activists were preventively detained, Siarhei Palcheuski managed to get to the square. The rally was held not only in the capital. Belarusians from different cities, including Minsk, Maladzechna, Baranavichy, Salihorsk took their New Year's pictures and posted them in social networks with the hashtag #БЧБ2017. Even Slovakia and Ukraine joined the campaign.

Detained Zmitser Dashkevich, Artsiom Leuchanka and Pavel Prakapovich were charged with disobeying police requirements (Article 23.4 of the Administrative Code). In addition, Leuchanka and Prakapovich, who were detained by people in mufti without any explanations and with the use of handcuffs, were accused of swearing and arm waving (Article 17.1 of the Administrative Code).

The Young Front members were kept at the Pervamaiski district police station for more than 5 hours, the police seized 10 white-red-white flags and 2.5 thousand calendars with national symbols and the inscription: "2017 – 500 years of the Belarusian Bible."

The Young Front activists with the assistance of the HRC Viasna sent a complaint against the unlawful police actions to the prosecutor of the Pervamaiski district of Minsk and to the Main Department of Internal Affairs of the Minsk city executive committee.
