Vitsebsk and Homel regions will host the largest number of refugees.

Decree "On Quota Distribution of Application Registration for Refugee Status or Subsidiary Protection in the Republic of Belarus for 2017" is published on the National Legal Internet Portal on 20 January.

The document specifies that in 2017 regional departments on migration and citizenship have certain quotas.

Brest region — 135 people;

Vitebsk region — 170 people;

Homel region - 170 people;

Hrodna region - 95 people;

Minsk region — 115 people;

Mahilyeu region — 115 people;

Thus, in 2017 Belarus grants the refugee status to 800 people. This is 400 people less than in 2015 and 2016 years. In 2013 and 2014 quotas equaled to 220 people.

It will be recalled that the EU allocates Belarus 7 million euros for the construction of the migrant holding centres for 30-50 people. The Interior Ministry informs that only foreigners will locate there, it does not relate to illegal migrants detained in Belarus, Syrian or other refugees from the EU.

Illegal migrants are acceptable during the identification period and/or deportation.
