Combat Helicopter Mi-24 With Belarusian Crew Downed In Congo

Two combat helicopters Mi-24 were downed in the Democratic Republic of Congo on January 28.

According to Georgian sources, one helicopter crew consisted of the Georgian citizens, the other one – of the Belarusians. The Georgian crew conducted an emergency landing, the helicopter flown by the Belarusian crew crashed. The pilots were sent to hospital. This has been reported by the Georgian media with a reference to the local military-analytical magazine “Arsenali”.

The information has been confirmed by the Georgian Ministry of Defense, as reported by the Georgian news portal “Interpressnews”. The message of the Ministry of Defense states that the pilots had no relation to the Georgian Armed Forces and were at the territory of the Democratic Republic of Congo as private persons.

Important to note, the information about the two downed Mi-24 helicopters of the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo has been confirmed by the French newspaper RTL. However, the article doesn’t mention the national identity of the pilots.
