Policeman Knocked Down Woman On Pedestrian Crossing Again?

The accident occurred in Smaliavichy district not far from Minsk.

In the evening on December 30, 2016, a woman died in a car accident on the highway Slabada-Novasiady, near the village Kryvaya Biaroza of Smaliavichy district. According to preliminary information, the woman was crossing the road "next to the pedestrian crossing."

The Investigation Committee informed Euroradio, that a criminal case was initiated over the fact of the accident.

"I can’t say exactly if there was a pedestrian crossing, whether she was crossing the road on it, not far from it or whether she was out of the pedestrian crossing. The expert study will be conducted to find out where exactly she was knocked down," – the official representative of the Investigative Committee Siarhei Kabakovich said.

According to law enforcement agencies, the driver of the car did not try to run away from the accident scene, and the examination showed that he was sober. Nevertheless, this accident has actively been discussed in social networks for several days. The reason for this is the driver: witnesses claim that a police officer from Barysau was driving that car.

Deputy Head of the Barysau district police department on ideology and staffing Andrei Shutko refuses to comment on the incident.

"We'll leave it without comments – we will conduct an investigation," – Andrei Shutko says in response to the question regarding a police department employee’s participation in the accident.

As we learned from informed sources in law enforcement bodies, an employee of the Barysau district police department knocked down the woman. According to our source, the police officer was not on duty, was traveling on his personal matters, was sober and did not try to escape from the scene. He believes that there is no need to focus on the place of his work, since any driver can get into a traffic accident. And assures that there aren’t any attempts to keep the matter quiet or to cover the police officer up – the investigators of the Investigative Committee district department investigate the situation.

Earlier, on November 26, near the village Dariova of Liakhavichy district the acting chief of the Baranavichy traffic police in a drunken state knocked down a 36-year-old resident of Slutsk. The woman died, a criminal case was opened against the policeman, he is in custody.
