Mikalai Statkevich: We Will Make These Disgraceful, Swinish Authorities Resign!
MIKALAI STATKEVICH

The main protest action will take place on March 25, 2018 in the Yakub Kolas Square, on the 100th anniversary of the proclamation of the Belarusian People’s Republic.

Leader of the Belarusian National Congress Mikalai Statkevich spoke before the participants of the Outraged Belarusians’ March 2.0, which was held today in Minsk:

— What happens in the army just mirrors the things happening in the state. The authorities turned Belarus into a big concentration camp. This affects our army. By today’s action we helped young soldiers, who had been just drafted to the army, we helped the parents of the deceased soldiers in their searches for justice.

It was enough to declare that the issue of hazing in the army would be raised in the course of today’s Outraged Belarusians’ March 2.0 to make the authorities change their position straightaway. They started saying that someone attempted to “discredit” the Ministry of Defense, that some campaign was allegedly started to mar the reputation of the Belarusian army. The authorities started looking for the guilty, and we don’t know whether those people were guilty indeed. There are those whose guilt is bigger, but at least the authorities are doing something.

To come to the action, or not to come remains a moral choice of every person, the matter of their principles. Everyone chooses for themselves.

Dear friends! Regardless of anything, we gathered here today. Despite the repression and preventive detentions. They can’t jail everyone! There will be more and more of us. And we will make these swinish, criminal, disgraceful authorities resign! I want to thank everyone who came here today. You are the salt of the Belarusian land. You are Belarus’s pride and joy. Your children and grandchildren will be proud that you came out to the Square to defend the freedom of our country.

We will continue our protest. In the nearest future, the Belarusian National Congress will announce its plans for the regions. The main protest action will take place on March 25, 2018 in the Yakub Kolas Square, on the 100th anniversary of the proclamation of the Belarusian People’s Republic — the Freedom Day. Thank you for coming! Long Live Belarus!
