General Staff Of Ukraine’s Armed Forces: Russian Troops Remain At Territory Of Belarus

It is difficult to establish the number of Russian servicemen who could remain at the territory of Belarus after the exercises West 2017.

According to censor.net.ua, head of the Verification Department of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Andrii Hudz informed about it, answering the question whether the statement that part of the Russian troops remained at the territory of Belarus after the military exercises West 2017 is true.

"There are Russian troops at the territory of Belarus. In Vienna, Deputy Chief of the General Staff, Chief of the Main Operations Department of Belarus Major-General Muraveika announced that a permanent joint Belarusian-Russian group of 12,000 people had been created. Of these, 5 800 are representatives of the Russian Federation,"— he said.

Later, he specified that it is difficult to say how many Russian servicemen remained after the completion of the exercises at the territory of Belarus.

"During the inspections that are carried out at the territory of Belarus, foreign inspectors confirmed that there were the Russian troops in the country," — added the head of the Verification Department of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Hudz also said that during the inspection by international observers of military units involved in the West 2017 exercise, Belarus showed such troops only partially.
