Top-Ranked Official From State Standard Arrested

The head of one of the Departments of the State Committee on Standardization was detained by the police for bribery.

In the Minsk region, a resident of the capital was arrested at the moment of taking a bribe for $20K. The man earlier also held a high position in one of the inspections of the State Standard. According to the detainee's testimony, the money was intended for transfer to the head of the Department of the State Committee for Standardization. As a result, both were detained, tut.by was informed in the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

"As it turned out, from August 2013 to January 2015 the official received from representatives of commercial organizations 35 thousand dollars and 30 million non-denominated Belarusian rubles, as well as other material values, as bribes. The generous "gratitude" of the businessmen was offered for issuing permits for conducting of construction and installation works and unconditional resolution of other issues within the competence of the official, " — the police told.

The Investigatory Committee initiated 7 criminal cases against the detainees on various articles of the Criminal Code of Belarus.

When conducting searches at the place of residence of the official, about 10 thousand US dollars was seized in various currencies; 60 thousand US dollars was blocked in bank accounts. Four apartments, land, money and other property of the defendants for a total of about one million Belarusian rubles was arrested.
