The first meeting of the "council" in a new composition takes place today.

Editor-in-chief of the newspaper SB. Belarus Today Pavel Yakubovich was elected chairman of the public council under the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Such a decision was adopted unanimously at the council’s meeting today, a BelTA correspondent reports.

After the election, Pavel Yakubovich thanked the participants for their trust. BT head Henadz Davydzka, who headed the structure since 2015, was elected honorary chairman of the public council under the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The reason for his displacement is not reported.

The first meeting of the public council under the Ministry of Internal Affairs in a new composition takes place at the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus today.

The Public Council under the Ministry of Internal Affairs was established in March 2013. It is a consultative body that "is involved in discussing the most important aspects of the internal affairs bodies’ activity", and has to "build a dialogue between law enforcers and the public".

We remind that last year, members of the public council under the Ministry of Internal Affairs, including Belteleradiocompany chairman Henadz Davydzka, co-chairman of the Belarusian Women's Union Antanina Marova and honored artist of Belarus Iryna Darafeyava, visited the detention centre and prison No. 4 in Mahiliou.

"The food is at the highest level, like in a restaurant, I confess honestly, I’ve even tried it – it is very tasty," – Iryna Darafeyava noted.
