Belarus will be the next country to make the European choice.

Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andriy Parubiy believes that the latest hostile acts against Ukraine were connected with the increased pressure of the Russian Federation on the leadership of Belarus, Radio Svaboda reports.

"Obviously, Ukraine and Belarus try to establish good-neighborly relations the entire time. But, nevertheless, we understand that the Belarusian leadership is constantly under pressure and under the influence of the Russian political leadership. Undoubtedly, this influence does not pass without a trace, and the influence of the policy of the Kremlin and Putin on Belarus is growing. The unfriendly actions of the Belarusian authorities with regard to Ukraine are likely to be connected with this," – Parubiy said.

At the same time, the Verkhovna Rada Chairman believes that, despite this, Ukraine should make every effort to support Belarus and democratic processes in Belarus.

"I have no doubt that Belarus will be the next country after Ukraine that will break off relations with the Russian Federation and take the path of European choice," – he said.

On November 20, the KGB of Belarus declared persona non grata Ukrainian embassy counsellor Igor Skvortsov, having accused him of "intelligence activities".

In response, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry sent back home the first secretary of the Belarusian embassy in Kiev.

The diplomatic expulsions began on November 17, when it became known that on October 25, the KGB detained Pavel Sharoiko, a citizen of Ukraine, a Ukrainian Radio journalist, on charges of "espionage".
