Minskers On Lukashenka’s Resign: ‘We’ll Have Massive People’s Party!’

The residents of the capital have been polled what they will do when the authorities in the country change.

What will you do when the authorities in Belarus change? Should Lukashenka resign? Belsat addressed to the Minskers with such questions.

The absolute majority were united in one opinion: the dictator should leave.

— I think it will be a huge holiday! We would dance, organize some people’s festival, — a young Belarusian girl says, laughing.

— At least I would be very happy because I never voted for Lukashenka. I am against him. This person has stayed at power for too long, and it always means stagnation and dead-end. There is no development. The people leave anywhere, to the East, to the West, no one wants to stay here. Lukashenka must leave. He must say it like Yeltsin: “I am leaving!” I think it’s not just me who is waiying for this, but the majority, — a Minsker believes.

— Of course I would rejoice, I would celebrate for about a month. I would organize myself a vacation, wouldn’t go to work. In general, I would be very glad, — a Minsk resident shares his thoughts.

— I think changes are needed. When a new person comes, new ideas come with them. And when it is always the same, year to year, five years to five years, it all results in stagnation. No movement. I think that state officials should work for some 5-10 years, and that’s all, time to change,” — a Minsker thinks.

— I think the people would be happy. You see what is happening in the country. Maybe some information reaches him, and his environment doesn’t tell him that there is hell in the country. I remember, some two years ago, there were no babushkas in the pedestrian subways trading goods, but now it’s crowded there,” — a man shares his observations.

— I would feel peace if he decided to give up his powers by himself. It would be a decision of an adult person. It’s time to move on, — a Minsker says.

— We would rejoice. We’ve had enough! He is tired of sitting there himself, time to retire. Chavez is dead, Mugabe is dismissed, ours should catch up. We need a new president. Lukashenka should consult his conscience and retire, — a Belarusian thinks.
