Dzmitry Palienka’s Release Demanded In Brussels

The Belarusians held some events on the eve of the Eastern Partnership summit.

On November 23, people took to the streets of the Belgian capital in solidarity with Belarusian political prisoner Dzmitry Palienka. Activists carried photos of the political prisoner and called for the release of a young man, whom Amnesty International recognized as a prisoner of conscience.

During the rally, they distributed leaflets with Dzmitry’s address in the Babruisk correctional colony so that everyone could write a letter to him.

Dmitry's friend Maryna Nasenka told belsat.eu that they keep putting pressure on the political prisoner in the colony.

"We receive information from his relatives. Dzima regularly goes to talks with the administration, and he is also sent to the remand center every 10 days for no reason. It means that he might be sentenced under Article 411 and extended the term," – Maryna Nasenka says.

The girl adds that letters get with difficulty to Dzmitry, as well as to the defendants in the "anti-fascists’ cause" Baiko and Valavik.

In October, Dzmitry Palienka was sent to the punishment cell for refusing to go for a walk, in August – for refusing to wash the toilet. He was also not allowed to meet with his parents.

In October 2016, the young man was sentenced to 2 years imprisonment with a suspended execution of sentence for allegedly assaulting a policeman during the Critical Mass cycling event, which was held in Minsk. Last spring, Palienka was arrested again: the court canceled the postponement and sent Palienka to serve the rest of the term in the Babruisk colony.
