Adviser To President Of Lithuania: EU Sends Clear Message Related To Belarusian NPP To Minsk

The European Union is solidar with Lithuania with regard to the Astravets NPP.

The European Union expressed solidarity with Lithuania regarding the nuclear power plant which is currently under construction in Astravets, Belarus (the Belarusian NPP), which was an important and clear message to Minsk, says adviser to the President of Lithuania Nerijus Aleksiejūnas, delfi.lt reports.

"In the course of the Eastern Partnership Summit, the European Commission President Jean-Claude Yuncker and President of the Board of European leaders Donald Tusk, having very clearly indicated that this was the problem of all EU countries, and that this issue will be given special attention — gave this very important signal to Belarus. I believe that it has been understood that this is not just an issue for Lithiania to concern about,” — foreign policy adviser to the President of Lithuania Nerijus Aleksiejūnas said.

He added that Belarus was obliged to demonstrate openness in nuclear safety, to comply with international conferences, to conduct so-called stress tests.

On Friday at the Eastern Partnership Summit, the EC chairman J.C. Juncker said that the Belarusian NPP project, criticized by Lithuania for the applied safety standards, alerts the whole of Europe, and Brussels will closely monitor it.
