Spokesman For Belarusian MFA Makes Caddish Remark About Linkevičius

Previously, the Lithuanian Minister for Foreign Affairs said that part of the Russian troops might stay in Belarus after the joint military exercise in summer 2017.

Spokesman for the Belarusian Foreign Ministry Dzmitry Mironchyk commented upon the statement of the Lithuanian MFA Linas Linkevičius, who, answering the question in an interview regarding possible consent of Belarus to locate a Russian military base at its territory, said the following: “Belarus’ integration into Russia is moving in a very dynamic way, let us say so. In all spheres. Now, the military exercise “West-3” is coming, a lot of military equipment will be transported to Belarus, and no one knows whether it will return back home. We shouldn’t be naïve here and believe that there are any obstacles on the way of this integration. On the contrary, there are becoming less and less of them. Of course we would like to support the Belarusian sovereignty… or what's left of it.”:

“Yes, we did pay attention that, lately, the Head of the Foreign Ministry of Lithuania — the state which we sincerely reckon as friendly, and with which we are going to celebrate the 25th anniversary since the establishment of the diplomatic relations this year — seems overwhelmed by emotions towards our country. He probably has something itching, like they say in a famous joke…

As for his recent statement on “what’s left of sovereignty”, it is especially aggravating because of its patronizing-humiliating tone. This tone reminds of the remnants of some imperial power.

However, here’s the paradox – Lithuania was an empire for the last time in the second half of the XV century at the time of existence of our common Great Duchy. Probably, the Minister likes historical literature very much and gets inspired by it. Or maybe Mr. Linkevičius extrapolates the situation in Lithuania, which transferred a significant part of its sovereignty to the EU and the NATO, on Belarus.

Everything is not as dramatic as Mr. Minister is trying to present. It is important to us that the Belarusian people should support the sovereignty of Belarus. If someone abroad really cares about the sovereignty of Belarus, they would rather help with action instead of insulting or moralizing,” – Mironchyk said.

Previously, Lithuanian Minister for Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius stated in the exclusive interview to the charter97.org that there would be no compromise with the Belarusian authorities. Demagogy and manipulations around the Belarusian NPP are unacceptable.
