Russia Rejects 20 Tons Belarusian Semi-Finished Meat Products As Defective

The Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance banned the import of the semi-finished meat products because of re-labeling.

On February 9, the inspectors of the Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance checked the cargo of the frozen coarse semi-finished beef products, made by “Pinsk Meat Processing Plant” JSC (Brest region), at the receiving-inspection area “Krasnaya Gorka”, interfax.by reports.

The products of the total weight of over 20 tons were accompanied with the veterinary certificates, issued by the State Veterinary Service of Belarus on February 8.

“The veterinary control detected severe violations of the technical regulations of the Customs Union. In particular, repeated labeling. The previous labels had obviously been deleted, judging from the traces of tearing something off the plastic wrapping of the semi-finished meat products. Apart from the above, the type of wrapping of some products differed from the one indicated in the veterinary certificates,” – stated in the message.

According to Chief Veterinarian of the “Pinsk Meat Processing Plant” JSC, the reason for the repeated labeling was bedraggling the previous labels with the meat fluid.

“As the probability of bedraggling in the section of the final packaging should be absolutely excluded in accordance with the veterinary-sanitary regulations, we took the decision to take samples of the products to check thereof for the compliance with the security indices. In case of getting positive results (confirmation of insecurity – Interfax) the surveillance body will appeal to impose reinforced laboratory control over the production of the “Pinsk Meat Processing Plant” JSC,” – stated in the message.

In the opinion of the Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance, the current situation requires a functional check upon the fact of sending the cargo with the traces of re-labeling. The cargo has been sent back to the shipper.
