Andrei Sannikov: Belarusian Officials Fall Within "The Magnitsky Act", Too

The European Belarus leader commented on the UK Parliament’s adoption of its "Magnitsky Act".

Andrei Sannikov stated in his interview to Charter97.org:

"The adoption of the "Magnitsky Act" by the UK Parliament is a very important event. This law counters impunity of the officials, who violate the human rights of people, subject them to tortures in prisons, where they are sent for political reasons. It is this international impunity, which allows dictators to commit crimes against their own people in their own countries.

I think that all the democratic states of Europe should adopt such laws in order to avoid flirting with dictators. By all means, this law must be applied to Belarus, and I think we can already start making the lists of criminals, retaining the power and violating human rights in Belarus, which clearly fall within this law.

I am proud that I’ve participated in some activities in the UK, promoting this law, but, obviously, we must pay tribute to Bill Browder – his perseverance, his energy. He helps all of us in memory of Sergei Magnitsky," – the European Belarus civil campaign leader said.
