The clash started after a verbal conflict.

At night on 23 February, the Lviv police received a call about a mass brawl in the hotel "Lviv" on the avenue Chornovil. It turned out that about a dozen of people took part in it – local residents and citizens of Belarus. According to the Lviv region police the clash started after a verbal conflict.

The call about the fight was received at about one o’clock at night. Later, the police draw up an administrative protocol for "petty hooliganism" against one of the participants, a 31-year-old resident of Lviv, for aggressive behavior and abusive language.

Three hours later, physicians reported that they had been attended by three Belarusians with minor injuries. Having been rendered help, they left.

"One of the victims wrote a statement to the police, following which criminal proceedings were initiated under Part 1 of Art. 125 of the Criminal Code (deliberate light bodily injury). The police has been establishing the circumstances of the accident, a pre-trial investigation is being conducted, – the Lviv region police informed.

The reason of the conflict is not known. According to the television channel TSN with reference to activist and deputy of the Lviv city council Igor Zinkevych’s posting on Faceebook, the city guests were drunk, "shouted and behaved in a boorish way." And at the remark in their address they said that they did not understand the Ukrainian language – thuswise the quarrel, and then the fight, started. There also appeared information that allegedly some nationalists were involved in the fight, in particular – from the "Right Sector". The party denied it.
